I am a second-year student at the University of Denver’s counseling psychology program with a focus on Clinical Mental Health counseling, and I expect to graduate in the summer of 2027! I earned my Bachelor of Science in psychology from Regis University in 2023 here in Denver. Between my undergraduate studies and my master’s degree, I worked as a Registered Behavioral Technician providing Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy to children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I found an appreciation for working with children and the neurodiverse population.

Through this opportunity, I hope to work more with children and neurodiverse populations. Before I moved to Denver, I lived north of Santa Fe, New Mexico, in a rural area. As I grew up, I learned about the disparities between living in a rural area and living in an urban area. This background is what sparked my drive to work with underserved communities.

Growing up in the Hispanic community in New Mexico, I have noticed the need for minorities to be in the counselor’s seat so that we can find more connection in a different way than with family and friends. Having someone you can confide in and trust is a very important relationship to have in any culture. I tend to lean towards mindfulness for my intervention style of therapy. I do use other concepts from modalities such as CBT and DBT. I am looking forward to learning more about EMDR therapy during this internship. In my free time, I love to listen to music, play games, be outside in nature, and make art.
