Andrew Ponn
With over eight years of experience in school counseling, I specialize in supporting students through a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. My approach integrates solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT), along with culturally responsive strategies tailored to each individual's needs. I have extensive experience helping students navigate trauma, manage anxiety, and develop the confidence needed for post-secondary success.
As a Cambodian American born in a refugee camp and raised in Minnesota, I bring a deep understanding of the immigrant and bicultural experience. I am especially passionate about supporting Asian American youth and families as they navigate identity, acculturation, and the challenges of social integration. My background also includes working closely with families through conflict resolution and family-based interventions.
In addition to my counseling experience, I began my career as a high school basketball coach and continue to apply coaching techniques to help students overcome performance anxiety and build resilience. I hold a master’s degree in school counseling and am currently completing my second master’s degree in school administration. I plan to pursue a doctorate in education or psychology in the near future.
My work is rooted in compassion, cultural humility, and a commitment to empowering students and families to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
